Description
The Old Farmhouse and Roseberry Cottage at Mole's Farm is a 17th-century farmhouse that has been converted into two houses. The narrower western half, known as Roseberry Cottage, is likely a contemporary extension to the wider eastern part, which may have originally served a non-domestic purpose or be part of a larger structure. The building is plastered and features an old red tile roof, with a projecting plinth and floorband. It is probably timber-framed, with some sections replaced in red brick beneath the plaster.
The northern side of the western half has a small gabled tiled porch. The eastern half is two stories tall with attics and is two windows wide, featuring slightly recessed boxed sash windows with eight panes each. There are two flat-topped dormers on the northern slope of the roof. The western half has smaller casement windows on its northern elevation, while the eastern face has larger windows. A prominent chimney on the eastern gable projects outward and has a large open fireplace on the ground floor.
Inside the eastern part, which is nearly eight meters wide, there are heavy chamfered stopped ceiling beams that divide the space into two bays, each containing two similar longitudinal beams. This suggests that the original layout consisted of a single large room on each floor, each with a large end fireplace. The roof features A-frame pegged oak trusses that span a wide area.
