Description

The Round House is a house dating to around 1700, likely incorporating an older structure in the southeast corner. It was extended westward in the 19th century. The timber frame is clad with mathematical tiles under plaster, appearing as ashlar on the southeast side. The rear is painted red brick, while the western portion of the front is stuccoed with raised quoins and a rusticated entrance. A steep red tile hip roof rises prominently, with an axial chimney in the originally symmetrical eastern part.

The house has two storeys, attics, and a cellar. The south front features two and three windows, with two gabled dormers in the east roof slope, each containing small-paned casement windows. Overhanging eaves have a moulded cornice and a plastered soffit. A low plinth is present. The three-window eastern part has six-over-six pane flush box sash windows on the upper floor, with louvred shutters. A flush 19th-century French door is centrally positioned, replacing a former entrance, and another French door is to the right. The left-hand window has been replaced by a stuccoed canted parapet bay matching a similar bay window on the 19th-century western extension, which extends beyond the new front door. This extension features a four-panel moulded door within a glazed panelled screen. Above the door, a recessed sash window with six-over-six panes is located, above which is a triple sash over a further bay window. A rebuilt conservatory sits on the western end.

The east elevation, with two windows, has eight-over-eight paned flush box sashes on the upper floor, and similar windows to the ground floor, where the sills were lowered in the 19th century.
