Description
Nos 14 and 16 on Ermine Street are early 19th-century almshouses that have been converted into two houses. They feature a timber frame that is plastered over a brick sill and are topped with a steep old red tile roof that has overhanging boarded verges and four gabled dormers above the eaves. The building is one and a half storeys tall and designed in a Gothic style, with a single prominent square chimney at the center.
There are four widely spaced windows, each with cast iron lattice casements, chamfered wooden mullions, and a coved cornice. The dormers have similar two-light windows, while the ground floor includes transomed two and three-light windows. The doors are located on either side of the middle two windows, featuring a wooden surround with shaped brackets that support a flat hood. This picturesque group of buildings is situated below the church.
