Description
The Old Coffee Tavern and Norman Cottage is a house that has been divided into two properties. It dates from the late 17th century and has been altered in the 18th century, early to mid-19th century, and around 1900. The building features a timber frame with plaster and brick. The front facing the street is plastered and consists of two storeys with an old tile, half-hipped roof that has brick stacks at the center and south end.
The Old Coffee Tavern showcases a well-preserved early to mid-19th century double shop front, which includes a square wooden entrance porch and a continuous fascia with a moulded cornice. The pilasters beside the windows display a Soanian groove pattern. There are double half-glazed doors with fielded panels, and circa 1900, there are three-pane casements on both floors.
Norman Cottage features 18th century sash windows on the ground floor, with buttresses flanking the door and a floor band. The north gable end reveals exposed half-timbering and a weatherboarded ground floor. Inside The Old Coffee Tavern, there is a notable early 19th century cellar that was previously used for public baths.
