Description

Barn. The west part of this barn dates to the late 16th century, while the east part was built in the late 17th century. It is timber-framed with a red brick sill, white weatherboard cladding on the south side, and roughcast on the roadside (north) elevation. The roof is steeply pitched and thatched. The barn is long with low side walls and a high roof. The western three bays feature jowled posts and curved braces supporting a cambered tie-beam. A large internal brick chimney was inserted into the third bay from the west and 18th-century leaded casement windows were added to convert that section into a coachman's house. The eastern, six-bay section has a central double-door entrance under raised eaves, along with several stable doors and small windows. This section has unjowled posts and curved tension braces. The roof is an inclined queen-strut clasped purlin design.
