Description

Chappells Cottage is a house dating to the later 17th century, with a northern bay added later. It is timber-framed with a red brick plinth and white weatherboarding, topped with a steep thatched roof. The house is a single storey with attics, facing east, and has a south gable facing the road. The original layout comprised three cells, with a central chimney and a heated room in the middle, and a further room added to the north. The south gable features an entrance and windows to the south room, which also contains the staircase. There are two-light flush casement windows with small panes; one to each floor at the south end, the upper one being a cast iron casement, along with three more along the east side, and two wooden casements. Two eyebrow dormers are situated on the east side, also with cast iron casements, and a plank door is sheltered by a gabled tiled hood. A separate door is located next to the corner of the north end. The interior features axial beams and a wide fireplace, with thin timber visible where exposed.
