Description
The Small Barn at Standon Lodge Farm is a 17th-century barn that has been converted into an implement shed. The roof was rebuilt in the 19th century, and the northern half of the barn was demolished in the 20th century. The structure features a timber frame that is weatherboarded, resting on a high red brick sill from the 17th century. The roof is now covered with slate. The barn consists of the two remaining southern bays of a larger five-bay barn that faces west, with a carriageway running through the center. The southern side retains the brick sill of a porch. It has unjowled posts with long curved braces supporting the tie beams, and a queen strut roof structure. The walls include staggered mid-height rails. This barn is of special interest due to its unusually wide-span structure and is included for its group value.
