Description
The well head gear and housing, located about 5 meters northwest of the Well House in Bramfield, dates from the mid to late 19th century. It features an iron and timber mechanism housed in an open square timber structure topped with a pyramidal tiled roof. The winding gear is hand-operated, consisting of a large outer handle that turns a small cog wheel on the lower axle. This engages a larger cog wheel on the upper axle, which has a central timber wheel over which the lifting rope passes. The Well House itself is not listed.
