Description

This is a house, likely dating back to the 17th century or earlier, with significant alterations in the late 17th and 18th centuries. The western portions of the house were plastered and rendered to resemble ashlar. It has very steep hipped roofs covered in old red tiles, with shaped rafters feet in the older parts.

The eastern front is a symmetrical five-window arrangement constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern. This section, dating to the late 17th century, features a projecting plinth, a floor band, a steep hipped roof with a bellcast, two hipped dormers, and a modillioned eaves cornice. Current 19th-century cross-shaped windows may have replaced earlier cross windows; one original late 17th-century cross window survives on the western projecting wing. A substantial chimney is located on the front slope of the roof near the ridge, with an arched entrance passage where it passes through the chimney stack. Modern single-storey flat porch extensions have been added.

An 18th-century brick extension, also of two storeys, projects from the north side, featuring sandy red brick, a plinth, a floor band, a lower window with a segmental arched head, and an external gable chimney. The original house appears to have been oriented east-west, with a lower, two-storey, central projecting wing to the north. The later 17th-century southern extension created a L-shaped structure and refronted the eastern end of the older house. An 18th-century shallow extension to the north side of the front obscured the older northern wing of the original house.
