Description

Little Beazleys is a 17th or earlier timber-framed house. A date of 1662, with the initials "TD", appears above the front door, though it may have been added later. The house has a steep thatched, half-hipped roof with a large central chimney rebuilt above the ridge. The exterior is weatherboarded. There are two windows on the front, with a central plank front door. Modern wood casement windows have replaced earlier mullioned windows, which were recorded in 1911. The interior layout consists of a kitchen to the east and a parlour to the west of the entrance. A large open fireplace is located in the eastern room, featuring a heavy, roll-moulded lintol with a pyramid stop at the southern end. The survival of two soot-blackened rafters at the western end of the purlin roof suggests the building may originate from the 16th century. The floor structure comprises axial beams and exposed squared joists, which may have been inserted during the 1662 alterations, when a staircase was also likely added. Thin bricks within the chimney may be of an earlier date. A bread oven is situated at the rear of the kitchen fireplace.
