Old Barn at Cottered Warren Farm 15m to SE of house

Barn. C16. Timber frame on red rick sill, dark weatherboarded with a steep tiled roof. A tall 7-bay barn facing N with a 2-bay gabled porch to the 3rd bay from E. Double doors to porch and blocked rear doors in same bay. Jettied gable triangle on brackets to porch with dovecote openings. Jowled posts with long curved braces to cambered tie-beams of collar-beam trusses (later queen-struts added). Clasped-purlin roof with curved windbraces. Mid-height rail in walls tennoned in-line, and curved tension braces. Edge-halved scarf joint in wallplate with bridled butts. A fine C16 barn little altered.
