Description
Bridge House is a house, now part of the accommodation for The Anchor Public House next door, built around 1825. The brickwork is painted ochre to match the pub, and it features a hipped slate roof on the south side. This wide-fronted, shallow-depth house has two storeys and a cellar, situated at the raised abutment of Wadesmill Bridge, also from 1825, facing east. The layout includes a central stair plan with an internal gable chimney at the north end, while the southern part is heated by an external lateral chimney at the rear, which is now capped off at the eaves level. The front is symmetrical with three recessed boxed sash windows, each with 2/2 panes, moulded frames, and flat gauged arches. There is a central six-panel moulded door accessed by two steps, framed by a wooden moulded surround with a flat hood supported by shaped brackets and a panelled overdoor. Bridge House is a notable building within the group that includes the bridge and The Anchor Public House.
