Description

Little Briggens is a house built around 1895 by the architect Gatsby for Mr. Reeve, who was a financial director at Truman, Hanbury and Buxton. The house is constructed of red brick and features two storeys plus an attic, topped with a hipped red tiled roof. The upper part of one projecting gabled bay on the south side has tile hanging. This picturesque and irregularly shaped house faces south and west, showcasing wide segmental arched windows and a moulded brick band at sill level on both floors. There is a four-panelled door located in a lean-to porch at the southwest corner, adjacent to a one-storey brick bay that is set diagonally across the corner. The house has tall square internal chimneys with corbelled tops, which are panelled on each face, and a tile-hung gablet by the west chimney. The windows include three-light and four-light transomed casements with small panes in the upper lights. At the back, there is a servants' stair-turret that serves the attics. An architect's perspective drawing of the house is kept inside.
