Description
Hill House is a house dating from around 1800, with rear extensions added around 1900. It is constructed of yellow brick with stucco features and has a half-hipped slate roof behind parapets. The building is two storeys tall with attics and has a double pile plan, featuring separate end chimneys.
The front of the house, which faces west, is symmetrical with five windows. There are paired windows on each side of the centre, which are recessed sash windows with stone sills, stucco flat arches, and 6/6 panes. The house has a plinth with a chamfered offset course, a stucco band, and a moulded cornice, along with stone coping on the parapet.
The entrance features a six-panelled raised and fielded door set in a panelled recess, surrounded by a pilastered wooden doorcase with a triangular open pediment on consoles. Above the door is a glazed fan in a rectangular opening. The entrance is accessed by seven stone steps with a wrought iron rail supported by scrolled balusters, which sweep outwards on the longer step at the foot. There are also sunblind cases. On the south wall, there is a large 19th-century wooden conservatory with a convex curved lean-to roof.
