Description
A group of three houses, built in the later 19th century, likely designed by Alfred Waterhouse for Buxtons of Easneye, around 1868-9. The houses are constructed of red brick with a tile-hung upper floor and steep red tile roofs. They feature cusped and pierced painted bargeboards on all gables and dormers. The design is near-symmetrical, with a central, one-and-a-half-storey house flanked by two-storey gabled projections at the ends. A gabled dormer is centrally positioned. The gable ends are quarter-hipped, and include corner entrances, segmental arched, chamfered openings and casement windows. A large terra-cotta armorial plaque displaying the motto "DO IT WITH THY MIGHT" is set into the upper part of the north gable. Other details include a toothed corbel band below the tilehanging, an ovolo moulded plinth and sills. The front facade has three-light casement windows, with two-light casements in the dormer and the jettied upper portions of the projections. Two large chimneys are present, with diagonal shafts.
