Description
The terrace walls, piers, and steps at Hadham Hall were constructed between 1632 and 1634 as part of the new Banquet House built by Arthur Capel the younger. They were excavated and reconstructed by William Minet around 1902. The walls are made of red brick in English bond and consist of two parallel retaining walls that run 58 metres from north to south and are approximately 7 metres apart. In the middle of each wall, there are York stone steps flanked by square brick piers. The eastern wall features buttresses and ogee moulded brick-on-edge coping, while the western wall has been rebuilt in Flemish bond. These structures are part of a group of historic brick features at Hadham Hall.
