Description
Hoop House is a house that likely originated in the 16th century, possibly as a non-domestic structure. It was reconstructed in the late 17th century as a two-storey building with a central chimney and a lobby entry plan, facing east. The house features a modern two-storey rear wing. It is timber-framed and plastered, topped with a hipped tiled roof and has a large central chimney. The building is unusually wide, with the older northern half partitioned along an axial central beam. The first floor has a chamfered crossbeam with a face-halved scarf joint and bridled butts in the west wall plate. The southern half contains two parallel longitudinal chamfered beams that support the 17th-century floor structure of square joists, with the same paired beams visible in the ceiling of the upper floor. There are several plank doors with H hinges throughout the house.
