Description

Ivy Farm is an early 18th-century farmhouse located in Little Hadham. The house features a modern small southeast two-storey wing that connects to a former 18th-century bakehouse. It has two storeys and an attic, with a timber-framed structure that is plastered and faces north. The gabled roof is covered with old red tiles and extends down as a catslide over the central rear staircase and adjacent shallow rooms.

The layout is symmetrical with a two-room plan and a central passage that has been incorporated into the eastern room, which now has a side entrance. The kitchen is situated in the southwest part of the rear. There are lateral chimneys on each side, with the eastern stack having one flue and the western stack having three flues, one of which serves the kitchen fire. Access to the loft is provided by a ladder from the top of the stairs.

On the western end, there is a small iron casement window with rectangular leaded glazing. Weatherboarding on the western end indicates that the sides may have been similarly clad. The front of the house has a symmetrical two-window arrangement with panelled fan pargetting above a brick base. The eaves at the front have a bell-cast design and a projecting plastered soffit. The windows are three-light 19th-century small paned casements, and the central door has been replaced by a matching two-light window.

The bakehouse, which is now part of the house, is a single-storey structure that is timber-framed and weatherboarded, featuring a brick oven with a domed interior, located in the southeast part of the building. The western side of the bakehouse has been infilled with red brick and includes a modern window.
