Description

The Old Farmhouse is a house dating from the 16th century, with plastering on the front that is dated 1666. The building has a tall, two-storey timber-framed and plastered structure facing east, with a weatherboarded apron on the north and east sides. It features a steep old red tiled roof that is hipped with gablets. The windows are small 19th-century casements with 1-3 lights, horizontally divided. The front door, which is half-glazed and has four panels, was also inserted in the 19th century and leads into the upper end of the hall.

Inside, there is a central red brick chimney located one-third from the north end, backing onto a cross passage. The house has a three-unit plan with two doors leading into service rooms on the west side, which are axially divided. A 19th-century staircase has been removed from the upper end of the hall. On the front, there are two painted lozenge-shaped panels with expanded points, marked 'IM' and 'SEA 1666'. The north wall has patched pargetting, and there is a high cemented plinth.

On the southwest side, there is a three-light late 17th-century casement window with leaded glazing and an iron opening light to the chamber over the parlour. A door on the west side leads into the cross passage, which has a roomy recess on the right, likely the site of a former stair. The interior features a deeply moulded 16th-century beam over the fireplace with hollows and rolls, and chamfered and stopped beams intersecting over the hall. The posts have heavy jowls at two levels, and there is a clasped purlin roof. Additionally, there is a fine four-centred plastered brick fireplace in the chamber over the hall, complete with sunk spandrels.
