Description
This is a 16th-century aisled barn located 65 meters to the north-northwest of Anstey Bury. The barn features a timber frame set on an old red brick sill in English bond and is covered in dark weatherboarding. It has a steep hipped roof with a gablet, which is currently made of corrugated asbestos. The barn consists of three bays and faces south, with double doors located in the middle bay.
The structure includes jowled posts for the aisles and arcade, with curved tension braces in the walls. There are curved braces supporting the cambered tie-beams and arcade plates. Spur sill walls and plates support the arcade posts. The roof is a clasped-purlin type with a single purlin. When the south aisle was heightened, the aisle-ties and front wallplate were retained, and the aisle roof was given a flatter pitch. Notably, an unusual scarf joint is used in the arcade plates, featuring a vertical tenon and slanting butts.
