Fryars And Detached Bakehouse 5 Metres To North

Fryars and the detached bakehouse, located 5 metres to the north, is a house and bakehouse dating from the early 19th century, after the 1839 Tithe Map. The building features a symmetrical design with two storeys and attics, constructed with a timber frame and plastered exterior. It has a hipped slate roof with plastered eaves soffit and a double pile plan, including two chimneys on the mid wall. A small gabled dormer is present on the rear roof slope. The east front is symmetrical with three windows, featuring flush sash windows that were originally 6/6 panes but have been renewed to 3/3 panes. The central entrance consists of a 4-panel door topped with a flat hood supported by moulded trusses. The bakehouse, made of brick and slate, is situated to the north of the house and includes a north gable chimney, a large sash window with 6/6 panes on the east side, and a south entrance. The interior of the bakehouse has a loft over the south end, while the rest is open to the roof. This house and bakehouse were newly built on this site after being moved from a location opposite Stonards, where the farm was situated in 1839, as indicated on the Tithe Map. This area was likely the centre of the manor of Freres, which was recorded from the 13th to the 16th century.
