Description
Vine Cottage is a house that dates from the late 17th century, with the northern part and the brick front from the early 18th century, while the southern part was added in the 19th century when it served as the village post office. The outer walls are made of brick, with timber-framed partitions, and the 18th-century front features red and blue brick. The southern part is constructed of red brick and is the same height, with a plastered gable. The house has steep old red tile roofs and is a long two-storey structure set back from the road, facing west.
It has four windows across the front, featuring flush three-light small-pane casement windows, and two plank doors with segmental arches and gabled wooden porches. The ground floor windows also have segmental arches, with timber lintels above them. A large external chimney with two flues is located on the northern gable, while there is a later internal chimney in the southern part. Inside, the older section has exposed timbers, and the walls have been raised to two feet above the tie-beams in the partitions. The shallower northern part includes an axial beam with hollow stops.
