Description
Old Church Cottage is a house dating from the 16th century, with an early 19th-century extension to the east. The building features a timber frame with painted brick-on-edge infill, while the western end has a painted brick ground floor and a tile-hung gable. It has a steep thatched roof with a scalloped ridge. The eastern extension is constructed of painted brick with white weatherboarding on the first floor and has a slate pitched roof. There is a lean-to painted brick garage at the eastern end, topped with a lean-to tiled roof.
The cottage is two stories high and has three bays, with a crosswing that likely extended further to the north. The western end has an underbuilt jetty supported by a jowled post, which is exposed on the southern wall. The taller two-story eastern extension faces south. The crosswing features an internal chimney that emerges from the northern roofslope and has two windows on each floor. The windows are flush casement style with small panes, including four-light and five-light configurations on the ground floor. There is an eyebrow dormer at the eaves. The eastern extension has one window on each floor, along with a six-panel door on the left, which is topped by a flat moulded hood supported by shaped brackets. The ground floor features recessed two-light Yorkshire sliding casements with segmental arches and small panes. An internal gable chimney is located on the eastern side, and there are low extensions to the north.
