Description

Mill Cottage is a house dating from the early 17th century, with extensions added in the late 18th century and the 19th century, and altered in the 20th century. The house is timber-framed and brick-nogged, with painted brick gables, and has a thatched roof to the original section, and a later brick extension with a tiled roof. It is a two-bay cottage representing two distinct periods, with a single-bay, single-storey extension. Late 20th-century wooden casement windows are present throughout, except for the window within the dormer. On the right end of the brick gable facing the front is spindly, three-panel high framing with a single-light window, and the wall-plate sits higher than that of the earlier bay to the left. Main posts are duplicated, with a long brace connecting an earlier post to the sill, and the framing is two panels high. A two-light casement window is visible on the left side, set within a swept dormer. A late 20th-century door is on the left, and a cambered head marks a blocked doorway to the left. The gable has been rebuilt in brick below the principal rafters, with brick chimneys at each end of the ridge. A single-storey extension to the left features two casement windows.
