Description
Camp Cottage is a house dating back to the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th or early 19th century. The windows were largely replaced in the late 20th century. The house is timber-framed with brick nogging, set on a random-rubble plinth. The rear elevation is painted brick, and the roof is thatched. It has two bays and one and a half storeys, with a continuous lean-to rear extension.
On the front, a lateral brick chimney is on the left, with tiled offsets below the eaves. A metal window is located to the right, possibly in the position of an earlier doorway (a change that may have occurred after 1981). Further to the right is another metal window, with a two-light casement in a dormer above, featuring a swept roof. The right return has a large brick base to the chimney outside the timber-framed gable; the roof is hipped against the sides of the chimney at the top, and the front wallplate is cantilevered out the full depth of the chimney. The left return has a metal window to the ground floor, and a double-boarded door leading to a cellar below. The framing in the wall is largely obscured by paint on render, but is believed to be original. The interior features a collar and tie-beam truss, with the bottom half glazed. The lean-to extension ends on the left.
