Description

Whitehouse is a farmhouse that likely dates back to the 15th century, with alterations made in the 17th and 20th centuries. It features a timber-framed structure with white-painted brick nogging set on a random-rubble stone plinth, topped with concrete roof tiles. The building consists of four bays and stands at one and a half storeys.

The entrance front is located on the right, showcasing framing with two panels high, a two-light casement window, and an iron opening light. To the left, there is a single section with two rails, leading to a boarded door that is accessed by two stone steps. Above, there is a three-light metal window in a lean-to dormer. A two-light casement window from 1984 is set in a brick panel to the left. The original entrance on the left has a cambered head and features a blocked curved oven projection, with a chimney positioned on the ridge above.

On the left side, there is a two-light casement window in a lean-to dormer, and a boarded door with an adjoining four-pane window. A gable chimney is located at the left end, outside the main structure. The right return has a covered lean-to extension that is weatherboarded and timber-framed, with exposed crucks above and a two-light metal window in the gable, supported by curved V struts.

Internally, there are at least two cruck trusses, one on each side of the central chimney. The room behind the right-hand door features a moulded beam that supports the floor above, along with exposed chamfered ceiling joists. The upper floor interior has not been inspected. It is reported that the building was thatched until the 1960s.
