Description

Church Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the early to mid-19th century, with some minor alterations made in the 20th century. It is constructed of purple-red brick laid in Flemish bond, featuring red brick detailing, and has a pyramidal roof topped with three tall brick stacks that have decorative corbelled caps, all covered with Welsh slate. The building has a square plan, with a central entrance leading into a hall passage.

The front elevation is symmetrical, featuring a central doorway set beneath a semi-circular gauged brick arch. The door is a six-panel design with flush panels framed by bead moulds, topped by a semi-circular fanlight with margin glazing. On either side of the doorway are stacked hornless sash windows with eight panes over eight panes, also beneath flat gauged brick arches, and with narrow stone cills. Above the doorway, there is a central first-floor window. The window heads are adorned with a dog-tooth sub-eaves course below a plain band, and the projecting eaves carry the gutters.

At the rear, the window openings have shallow brick-arched heads and feature two-light six-pane casements. The ground floor openings at the rear are boarded up. Although the interior was not inspected, it is known to be little altered and likely retains features of interest. Church Farmhouse is a well-preserved example of an early to mid-19th century farmhouse, distinguished by its quality exterior detailing, and it contributes to a significant group of buildings and monuments in the center of Long Marston village.
