Description
The gatehouse at Loxley Farm is a 16th-century structure located on Chapel Lane in Long Marston. The front and east gable end are faced in brick from the 18th century, while the west gable was faced in the 20th century. It features a timber frame resting on a red brick sill, which is cased in red brick with black headers, and has a steep old red tile roof. The building is tall and consists of two bays, with a carriageway through the west bay. Inside the carriageway, the right-hand side is lined with weatherboarding on an oak frame, while the left-hand side showcases an exposed timber frame with red brick nogging and remaining wattle and daub panels in the upper part. The structure has wide-spaced studs and a mid-height rail, with a door leading into the east bay. It also features jowled posts and a clasped-purlin roof, with a single purlin on each slope supported by long curved wind-braces. Other farm buildings were destroyed by fire in 1917.
