Description
The statue of Adonis is located at the southeast corner of the house at Grange Farm in Tring Rural. It dates from 1741 and has the name 'JAN VAN LOGTTAREN' inscribed on the base at the side and rear. The statue was brought from The Green Park in Aston Clinton around 1948. It is carved from stone and is larger than life, depicting a standing male figure wearing sandals and a cloak, accompanied by a winged child, which is now headless, standing over a rectangular quiver of arrows. The statue stands on a moulded bluestone plinth with concave corners. This statue is one of a matched pair, with the statue of Venus nearby, and there is also a contemporary plinth in the vicinity.
