Description

Dover Castle is a house dating from the 17th century or earlier, with extensions added in the 19th and 20th centuries. The structure is timber-framed, with a stucco sill, painted brick infill, and brick casing to the ground floor. It has a steep thatched roof, half-hipped at the east end. The house is a long, one-and-a-half-storey building facing south, featuring an internal chimney. It has three windows on the north side, with two swept dormers above, and a projecting porch and stairwell by the chimney, also with a dormer above. The south side has two windows and dormers, with a 20th-century semi-circular bay window to the left of the front door. The windows are small-pane casements. The side walls have wide panels framing the structure. The east gable contains a collar and three studs above a wavy tie-beam. Tall studs are visible below the end rail at a mid-height.
