Description
No. 40 High Street is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the early 18th century, with a shop front added in the early 20th century. The building is made of red brick and features a moulded eaves cornice and a steep hipped roof covered with old red tiles. It stands two storeys tall and is five windows wide, facing east, with a short gabled rear service wing that is one and a half storeys high, located at the northwest. The front first-floor windows are flush box sashes with six-over-six panes and flat gauged arches. The shop front is pilastered and includes two small-paned bow windows and a central glazed door, all covered by a tiled pentice roof. There is a wrought iron bracket at each end of the shop front.
