Description
No. 49 High Street is a house that has been converted into an office. It dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with a southeast extension added in the 19th century and a front restoration completed in 1976. The building is constructed of red brick and features steep old red tile roofs, hipped at the front with gabled cross-roofs at the rear.
It is two stories tall and has a symmetrical front that is three windows wide, facing west. The front includes a parapet, stucco corner pilasters, a brick band at the eaves level, and a chamfered plinth. The windows are small-pane sash windows with flat gauged arches and plastered reveals, featuring 4/4 panes above a central door, with triple sashes on either side. The ground floor has wider triple sash windows (which have been renewed) flanking a half-glazed panelled door (also renewed).
The building has an L-shaped layout with a rear stair turret at the angle and a large chimney on the rear wall. There is an external south gable chimney that is enclosed within a single-storey small extension. Inside, the layout consists of four bays defined by crossbeams to the north of the entrance, while the southern part features an axial beam.
