Description
Haverfield is a house that has been converted into a surgery, dating from around 1740, with mid-19th century alterations including new windows and a northwest extension. The building is constructed of red brick and features a coved wooden eaves cornice and a steep hipped roof covered with old red tiles. It is two storeys high and has a double pile layout with end chimneys. The house faces east and has two projecting chimneys with offsets on each end wall, with a central staircase located at the rear. The east front is symmetrical and three windows wide, with six stone steps leading up to the central door. The windows have flat gauged arches on both floors, with recessed sash windows that have plastered reveals, featuring 6/6 panes in the middle and triple sashes on each side. The flared front steps are made of Portland stone, with a moulded nose and cast iron railings. The entrance is marked by an unusual wooden doorcase with unfluted Greek Doric half pillars and an entablature that forms a bracketed panelled hood. The door itself is a five-panel fielded door with bullion lights added around 1900. Inside, the house retains much of its early 19th-century joinery and staircase.
