Description

This is a group of three houses located on the west side of High Street, Kings Langley. The core of the building likely dates back to the 18th century, or possibly earlier, although it was refronted in the 18th century, as evidenced by the inscription ‘IK 1762’ carved into the brickwork of number 46. Number 50 is a 19th-century addition. The building is believed to have a timber frame construction and presents a red brick facade along with a red brick south end. The south gable is tilehung and topped by a steep roof of old red tiles.

Originally constructed as a pair of houses with a cellar and 16 storeys, facing east, the building included three windows, two doors, a shared central chimney, and three gabled dormers at the eaves. A south extension (number 50) was added, matching the height and materials of the original structure and featuring an external south gable chimney, a dormer, and a small-paned casement window adjacent to the doorpost. The earlier section’s three-light casement windows are arched and fitted with external shutters. The doors are alternately arranged as four-panel flush beaded doors and a segmental arch frames the central cellar window.
