Description

This is a house dating from the early 17th century, or possibly earlier, with a deed from 1625 relating to the property. The front of the house was refaced with brick in the 18th century, and a western end and rear extension were added around 1950. The house is timber-framed and brick-cased, with a steep roof covered in old red tiles, which are believed to have replaced thatch. It is two storeys high, with two bays facing south, an external eastern gable chimney, and a two-storey western extension. A tall north-western rear extension and a lower north-eastern rear outshut are also present. The front of the house has three three-light casement windows, and a gabled tiled porch leads to the door of the eastern bay. Inside, the timber frame is exposed, consisting of two bays with straight bracing from jowled posts to wavy tie-beams and strutted collars to a clasped-purlin roof. A squint-butted scarf is visible in the wallplate, and there are chamfered axial floor beams with chamfered and stopped joists. There are wide panels to the walls.
