Description

The sundial at Beechwood Park School, located 30 meters to the west-southwest of the library, dates from the early 19th century. It is made of Portland stone and features a bronze dial plate. The sundial stands about 1.5 meters tall and consists of a monolithic pedestal with a plain circular cap, a narrower neck, and a concave curve that sweeps out to a much wider base. The base is deeply cusped on three sides, giving it the appearance of a tripod, and is set on a triangular base that is flush with the ground. All transitions are smoothly curved, with no mouldings or additional decoration. The top of the sundial is fitted with an engraved plate signed 'CARY. LONDON' and includes a gnomon arm.
