Description
The Red House, located at The Broxbourne School, is an early 18th-century building that has undergone alterations in the mid-to-late 18th century and the 19th century. It is constructed of red brick with a hipped, red tile roof and a parapet. The building is two storeys high with four hipped dormers and five windows, most of which are 19th-century flush sash windows with rubbed brick lintels. Horizontal floor bands are visible on the exterior. Some modern windows have been added to the ground floor. A notable feature is the doorcase, which includes fluted Roman Doric half columns, a Greek fret frieze, a mutuled cornice, and a pediment. The interior is believed to contain two newel staircases with turned balusters, along with some plain 17th-century panelling on the first floor. A modern extension has been built onto the north side of the building.
