Description
Hatton House is an early to mid-18th century building located on the south side of Church Lane in Cheshunt. It is constructed of brown brick with red brick dressings, featuring rubbed brick window lintels and a modillioned cornice, topped with a parapet. The house has three storeys and five segmental-headed flush sash windows that retain their original thick glazing bars.
The central entrance boasts a very fine Doric doorcase made of painted stone, which includes a chamfered block arched surround with imposts, a semicircular fan with arched panels, a fluted keyblock, bossed pilasters, and a full entablature. The door itself has six fielded panels. Inside, the house features original architraves and cornices, along with a late 18th-century semicircular staircase on the right side of the hall that showcases Adam style details.
The rear elevation presents a slightly simplified version of the front doorcase, although the doorway is blocked. It also has flush flat-headed sash windows. Additionally, there is a 19th-century extension made of yellow stock brick on the east side.
