Description
The outbuilding located at the rear and to the west of Porters Hall is a structure that was once used as a dovecote but originally served as a dwelling. It dates from the 15th or 16th century and is constructed from timber framing with plaster, featuring an exposed long wall jetty on the east wall. The building has two storeys and is topped with a red plain tiled roof.
It includes six light mullion windows on both the front and rear sides of the ground and first floors, although some of these windows are now blocked. The structure consists of two bays and features arched braces supporting a stop-chamfered, cambered tie beam. The roof is supported by a two-arm crownpost, and there are jowled storey posts.
The outbuilding has an original board door, along with an 18th-century six-panel door to the left that leads to a staircase made of oak treads and risers. The jetty is supported by four curved braces, and the top plates are joined with halved and bridled scarf joints.
