Description
Copford Hall is a house that dates back to the 16th century or earlier, with later alterations and additions. It is constructed from timber framing and plaster, topped with a red plain tiled roof that is hipped to the left and features a left rear crosswing. The building has a large red brick chimney stack on the left crosswing and another chimney stack to the right of the front range. It stands two storeys tall with attics, showcasing two gabled dormers. The front has a three-window range of vertically sliding sashes, each with labels above. The central entrance features a four-panelled, two-light door with a moulded surround, and is sheltered by a red tiled slanting porch supported by timber.
Inside, notable features include two restored inglenook fireplaces; the one in the front range has been replastered but retains the original plastered De Vere mullet above it. There is also 17th-century panelling in this room, which has since been demolished, along with a panelled corner cupboard and a 17th-century window with a swan head catch. The building includes stop-chamfered bridging joists and some panelled and vertically boarded doors.
