Description
The Chequers is a house dating from the early 17th century, with a date inscribed on the porch bressumer of 1609. There is also a plaster plaque dated 1602, although records indicate a later date of 1785. The building has undergone alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. It features a timber frame with panel plastering and a plain tiled roof that has a gable on the right side. The house is one storey high with attics and includes three gabled dormers. A full-height porch that is gabled and jettied is a prominent feature. The front has a window arrangement of 1:1:3, consisting mainly of three-light casements with transoms, likely from the 19th century. The entrance includes a nailed three-board door with muntins and strap hinges, framed by a moulded oak surround.
