Description
Church Cottages, located on Great Sampford Hill Road, is a 15th century timber-framed and plastered hall house that underwent alterations with a floor inserted in the 16th to 17th centuries. The building features cross wings at both the north and south ends, with the wings rising two storeys and the central block having one storey and attics. The south wing showcases a jettied upper storey on the east front. The windows are primarily casements, many of which are from the 20th century, while the central block includes an 18th century or early 19th century former shop bow window with glazing bars and a cornice. The roofs are tiled, with external stacks at both ends and a 17th century internal central chimney stack in the hall block. It is noted that part of the original roof structure is still present. Additionally, there is an 18th century Sun Life fire insurance sign on the central chimney stack.
