Description
The White House is an 18th-century timber-framed and plastered house located on Newport High Street. It features later additions and alterations, particularly in the north wing, which has been rebuilt or significantly changed. The main block of the house is two storeys high and has a three-window range of double-hung sashes with glazing bars. On the ground floor, there are two splayed bays with moulded cornices and a central doorway that includes a semi-circular ornamental fanlight, pilasters, and a modillion cornice. The roof is tiled and has a mansard design with two sloping-roofed dormers. The north wing is three storeys tall, with two double-hung sashes with glazing bars and moulded cornices on the first storey, while the second storey has modern casements. The ground storey features a modern doorway, and the roof is also tiled, with a half-hipped design at the east end.
