Description
Crown House is a fine late 16th century and 17th century timber-framed and plastered house located on the east side of Newport Bridge End. The house features late 17th century pargetted plaster panels on the front, with the upper storey panels decorated with floral designs of roses and garlands. The central panel above the doorway displays a crown in high relief. The building is two storeys tall and has a six-window range with 2-light leaded casements, while the ground storey windows are adorned with small cornices. A central doorway is framed by a wood doorcase that includes a moulded architrave, pilasters, and a fine shell hood supported by carved brackets. The date 1692 is inscribed above the door. At the rear, there are modern additions. The roof is tiled and features a large central square chimney stack. The interior retains original features.
