Description
Tudor House, formerly known as Martins Farmhouse, is a fine 15th-century timber-framed and plastered house located on the east side of Newport Bridge End. It features a solar cross wing at the north end, with the timber-framing exposed on the cross wing and the upper storey of the main block. The house has two storeys and cellars, with the upper storey jettied across the entire front, supported by exposed joists. The ground storey is faced in brick and plaster. The building has five windows, which include lattice leaded casements, and two of these windows are flanked by high-level 3-light windows. The gable of the north cross wing displays original bargeboards. The roof is tiled and is topped with a notable 16th-century chimney stack at the north end, featuring four circular shafts adorned with moulded brick ornamentation and spurred caps, all resting on a square base with two sunk panels on the front. Inside, the house retains original features, including fireplaces.
