Description
The Links is a building from the 18th and 19th centuries, originally serving as the town Bridewell and Gaol, later repurposed for a local weaving industry, and now converted into flats. It is designed in a half H plan with long wings extending to the south. The east wing is constructed of red brick, while the west wing features white brick with rusticated brick quoins. The building has two storeys and cellars. It has a one:three:one window arrangement of bar and transom casements with semi-circular arched heads. The central section, which has a three-window range, slightly projects forward and is accented with rusticated quoins and a modillion pediment. In the tympanum, there is a carved panel depicting links and a chain. The roofs are tiled and hipped at both the north and south ends.
