Description
9 Market Walk is a house and shop, now used as a shop and offices, dating from around 1825. It is constructed of grey gault brick and has a slate roof with a rectangular plan. The north front elevation features a three-window range, but is primarily characterized by a full-length decorated Doric stucco entablature on the ground floor. This entablature is flanked by wooden engaged fluted columns with Doric capitals, totaling five columns. The shop has a double-fronted design with a central door and a house door at the east end. All ground floor glazing, including the doors, is from the 20th century and is plain, but the dado beneath the windows and lower door frames retains original rectangular panel moulding. The first floor windows have moulded stucco architraves and are fitted with sashes that have glazing bars, arranged in a 3x4 pane configuration. The roof is hipped and concealed by a parapet, which features a heavy moulded stucco cornice below. The east and west side elevations are partly exposed and both are blank.
