Description

This is an early 19th century house built in the picturesque "cottage ornée" style. It's constructed of gault brick with a deep thatched roof. The building has an irregular plan, featuring a front-facing, rectangular block with a porch, a large central rear wing, a smaller wing to the west, and a 20th-century addition at the rear constructed in a similar style. The house has one and a half storeys and is marked by tall, decorative stacks.

The north-facing front elevation has a symmetrical four-window arrangement. The windows feature stone mullions and dressings, with three lights and an upper transom, fitted with iron octagonal pattern casements. A projecting central porch has a four-centred arched doorway and arched, trefoil-traceried side openings. The inner door is of Jacobean style, with battened and studded boards and "jewel" detailing. Above the porch, there is a two-light window in a four-centred arched frame with latticed casements. The bargeboards are decorative. Dormers, also in the house style with thatched roofs, bargeboards, and two-light latticed casements, are situated above the principal windows. There are three “Tudor” style stacks, alternating with the dormers; these have square bases with a chamfered cornice and octagonal shafts, with four finials on the end stacks and two on the central stack.

The south-facing rear garden elevation displays the house style with deep, pierced decorative bargeboards and pendants. A ground floor French window is fitted with upper Chinese lattice glazing and bead-moulded flush lower panels. Above, a three-light window features intersecting tracery. Two thatched dormer windows project on the west side. The west wing displays four-light transomed windows on the ground floor, with lozenge lattice glazing in the upper lights, and a two-light arch-headed window in a square frame on the first floor. Numerous small lattice-glazed windows are located at the rear of the house, along with a single dormer window between the projecting wings.

The east end has a 20th-century two-storey addition that follows the general house style, with casement windows, some of which have rectangular leaded panes. A side door consists of four panels, with upper glazed sections.

The west end features a flat-roofed side porch with a 19th-century six-panel door.

A yellow brick dwarf wall with round coping runs along part of the property, with wrought-iron railings featuring spearhead finials alternating with "bud" finials. The railings are topped with lower split curls. Wrought iron square-framed tented gate piers have bud finials, and a two-leaved gate is decorated with bold arabesques.
