Description
The Martello Tower, located adjacent to the sea wall at Clacton Golf Course, dates from around 1808 to 1812. It is constructed from vari-coloured brick made in Grays, Essex, and features a stone parapet. The tower has rusticated stone dressings around four windows and a door positioned at half height. Built at a cost of approximately £5,000, the garrison stationed here was based at Weeley barracks due to the unhealthiness of the coastal area.
