Description
Duchess Farmhouse is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations from the 18th century and a brick facing. It is timber framed and has a painted brick exterior. The roof is covered with red plain tiles and features two gabled dormers, along with red brick chimney stacks on both the left and right sides. The building has a T-plan layout and includes a dentilled eaves cornice and a central band. It is two storeys high with attics and has three small paned vertically sliding sash windows on the first floor. On the ground floor, there are tall small paned double windows on both sides, and a central 19th-century gabled porch with tracery on the support posts. The entrance features a four-panelled door with a top light, surrounded by a moulded frame and frieze. Inside, there are some exposed timber frames from the 17th century in the rear wing, a fully framed staggered side purlin roof in the front range, alcove cupboards on either side of the ground floor fireplace, and Adam style fire surrounds with cast iron grates in the ground floor lounge and two bedrooms. The staircase has stick balusters.
